Cost & Finance

How much does a stairlift cost?

New straight stairlifts from GentleRise start at £1,295 including installation. Reconditioned models start from £795. Curved stairlifts start from around £2,500. All prices include installation and warranty.

Do you offer 0% finance?

Yes. We offer 0% finance on new stairlift installations, allowing you to spread the cost over an agreed period with no interest. We'll discuss all payment options during your free home assessment.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. The price we quote includes the stairlift, installation, and warranty. We won't surprise you with extras on the day.

Can I get a grant to help pay?

The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) can provide up to £30,000 for eligible applicants. Stairlifts are also zero-rated for VAT for people with disabilities, saving 20%. See our grants page for full details.

Is renting a stairlift cheaper?

Rental starts from around £65/month and is ideal if you only need a stairlift for a short period — for example, post-surgery recovery. Long-term, buying is usually more cost-effective.

Installation

How long does installation take?

Most straight stairlift installations take between 45 minutes and 2 hours. Curved stairlifts may take slightly longer due to the bespoke rail fitting.

Do you offer next-day installation?

Yes. For straight stairlifts (new and reconditioned), we offer next-day installation across most of the UK, subject to stock and engineer availability.

Will installation damage my staircase?

No. The rail is fixed to the treads of the staircase, not the wall. Fixings leave minimal marks and are easily filled if the stairlift is ever removed.

Do I need an electrician?

Not usually. Stairlifts run from a standard 13-amp plug socket. If there is no socket near the top or bottom of the staircase, we may need to have one installed.

Can a stairlift be fitted to any staircase?

Most staircases can accommodate a stairlift. Our engineer will assess your staircase during the free home survey and advise on the best option.

Curved & Specialist Staircases

Can you fit a stairlift on a curved staircase?

Yes. We install bespoke curved stairlifts with a custom-made rail designed specifically for your staircase. A free home survey is required to take measurements.

What about L-shaped or spiral staircases?

L-shaped and spiral staircases can be fitted with curved stairlifts. We assess every staircase individually to ensure the correct solution.

Can a stairlift be fitted on a very narrow staircase?

In many cases yes — modern stairlifts are designed to fold away compactly. Our engineer will advise whether your staircase width is suitable during the home visit.

Repairs & Servicing

My stairlift has broken down — how quickly can you come?

GentleRise has an average emergency response time of 12 hours. We achieve a 99% first-visit fix rate. Call us on 0333 335 5637.

Do you repair stairlifts you didn't install?

Yes. We repair all makes and models of stairlift, regardless of who fitted them originally.

How often should a stairlift be serviced?

We recommend an annual service for all stairlifts. This checks safety features, lubricates moving parts, and ensures reliable operation.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. Our maintenance contracts provide scheduled annual servicing plus priority response and discounted repairs if anything goes wrong.

Reconditioned Stairlifts

Are reconditioned stairlifts safe?

Yes. All our reconditioned stairlifts are fully stripped, cleaned, tested, and safety-checked before sale. They come with a 12-month warranty.

How much cheaper are reconditioned stairlifts?

Reconditioned models are typically 30–40% cheaper than equivalent new stairlifts. They represent excellent value and are our most popular option.

What is the warranty on a reconditioned stairlift?

GentleRise provides a 12-month warranty on all reconditioned stairlifts. New stairlifts carry a 2-year warranty.

Removal & Resale

Can you remove an old stairlift?

Yes. We remove all makes and models and restore your staircase to its original condition. Contact us for a removal quote.

Can I sell my old stairlift?

If your stairlift is in good condition, we may be able to purchase it for reconditioning. Contact us to discuss.

What happens to removed stairlifts?

Where possible, we recondition and resell removed stairlifts. Otherwise they are disposed of responsibly and recycled where possible.
